Asset Operations Manager

Your role will be to lead and manage the Asset Operations Team by directing Road Performance, Survey, Materials and Audit and Compliance, so that so that Asset Planning principles are effectively delivered throughout Surrey Highways.

It is very important that all services provided by the Asset Operations Team are delivered in a customer-focused, accessible and cost effective manner, and as Operations Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring that this is the case. You will also be directly responsible for all Asset Operations and key projects which are essential to meeting the aims of Surrey Highways and other relevant governing bodies.

Financial monitoring and reporting will also be of great importance to this role, and under the direction of the Group Manager, you will lead the Asset Planning Group in these matters, in accordance with the current business principles applied within Surrey County Council.

The whole purpose of our recent restructuring is to continuously improve the services delivered by Surrey Highway Service. Therefore – through personal example – you will be expected to promote and support innovation and manage risk-taking and performance, and to manage cost efficient Operational Services that will bring increasing performance, value and benefit to Surrey residents.

This is an exciting opportunity in a very “hands on” role: we want you to actively contribute to our ongoing improvements, so that Surrey County Council is recognised – internally and externally – as a dynamic and continually improving public body.

You will be responsible for managing a team budget of approximately £1.25m, a team of 25 staff and you will have an external client base of more than 70 companies.

You will be working closely with other departmental managers and team leaders to find practical and cost-effective solutions to often complex issues. Good interpersonal and problem solving skills are therefore crucial to this position.

To be considered for this position, you will need to have an excellent understanding of the principles of Asset Planning and Management, strong project management and leadership skills and extensive recent working experience in project working. You will hold a First degree/HNC and/or have 10 years’ relevant experience in a suitable technical subject and recent first hand experience of financial management using CONFIRM and SAP in a highway contract environment.
