Working as part of a small team based at the decentralised Housing Needs Centre at Victoria Park House, Harrogate, you will provide a specialist housing advice service and undertake homelessness assessments.
The main duties of the post include provision of advice and assistance and investigation and enquiry into homelessness applications. Particular emphasis is placed upon preventative approaches aimed at helping households retain their accommodation, together with the discharge of the Council’s statutory duties, management of temporary accommodation and regular maintenance of performance and workload recording systems. You will have specific responsibility for the development of services for single homeless people, working with other agencies and housing providers within the District to monitor housing needs and to develop initiatives aimed at improving housing opportunities.
You should have experience of housing advice, homelessness, tenancy allocations or housing management and have a comprehensive working knowledge of private and public sector housing law and the welfare benefits framework. You should have an appreciation of the circumstances that cause homelessness and be able to identify, devise and implement solutions, which address the range of difficulties, experienced by homeless households.
You should have a clean driving licence and use of a vehicle, for which an appropriate allowance is payable.
