This is an opportunity to make a major impact on the strategic management and development of a council service. Commercial Services is a traded service, with no council funded budget.
As the Senior Principal Accountant, you’ll need to combine commercial acumen with creativity as you lead on a wide range of areas within the service. You’ll be responsible for finance, business planning, performance management, business process improvement and ICT, as well as having a wider role within the service’s senior management team. On a typical day you could be providing advice and support to front-line managers and finance colleagues, reviewing and dealing with issues from management information, or making decisions as part of the management team.
You’ll be an experienced, qualified accountant, but should possess significant management experience and ideally a management qualification. With experience of working in a not-for-profit environment, and in a political environment, you’ll be able to combine a hands-on and a strategic approach. You’ll be able to create strong, positive working relationships and be able to influence colleagues. Highly numerate and methodical, you’ll also be creative and able to act as a critical friend to the organisation.
