Asbestos Surveyors

PO2: £29,859 to £32,289

Temporary appointment for 9 months.

Newham Council has recently established a team to deal effectively with its duties to manage asbestos within its Corporate buildings.

We are looking to recruit two skilled and experienced surveyors who will assist the Council on a temporary basis in meeting the statutory requirements placed upon it by Regulation 4 of the Control of Asbestos Regulations and in meeting the requirements and demands of its own asbestos management plan.

Working as part of a team you will be expected to carry out a programme of surveys to a specified standard in Newham’s 450 corporate buildings.

The successful candidate must have substantial experience of surveying for asbestos and a complementary expertise in building standards and report writing. The ability to communicate effectively and sensitively to fellow professionals and to other service users is also an essential requirement.

Applicants must be qualified to a minimum level equivalent to P402 of the British Occupational Hygiene Society in asbestos surveying in buildings.

Due to the nature of these duties, some out of hours evening and weekend work will be essential.

If you would like to know more about these posts please contact Tony Taborda (Principal Officer for the Asbestos Audit Team) on 020 8430 3514.

As the Council has a normal retirement age of 65, the maximum age for recruiting new employees will usually be 64 1/2.

The Council reserves the right to close adverts early if there is a large response.

Equal Opportunities

It is the council's position that everyone should be treated fairly, without discrimination and with respect of their human rights, regardless of their gender, race, age, disability, sexual orientation, HIV status, religion, national or social origin or class.
