Role Description:
Care Matters: Time for a Change?
The educational achievement of children in care is recognised nationally, regionally and locally as a source of considerable concern.
People who have been in care are at higher risk of exclusion than any other single group. They are more likely to be homeless and are over represented in both the prison and teenage parent populations. The gap between their achievement and that of their peers is a significant cause for concern.
In Surrey we are committed to ‘narrowing the gap’ through our Virtual School.
Would you like to join us and make a difference to the life chances of vulnerable learners?
Are you a skilled classroom practitioner, with leadership experience, wanting to extend your role in an exciting developing context?
If so, we are offering an opportunity to make a difference to the outcomes for children in care in Surrey, working in our Virtual School.
In this new role, you will:
- Work directly with schools, Designated Teachers and other key stakeholders to drive up standards of education for children in care, as though they attended a single ‘Virtual School’
- Demonstrate high aspiration and provide development and training opportunities for Designated Teachers, carers and a range of professional staff
- Offer challenge, scrutiny and support to a range of key stakeholders
- Inform and contribute to the formulation of policy and initiatives within the Virtual School in Surrey
You need to be able to demonstrate: - Proven successful experience in the management and improvement of outcomes for a cohort in a school in a leadership role
- The impact of your leadership on improving educational outcomes for vulnerable children and young people
- Evidence of effective partnership working with a range of agencies
- The passion and energy to motivate, inspire add value and improve capacity
This is a Countywide post and a significant amount of travel may be involved so the ability to travel to diverse parts of the region is essential.
