This is an exciting opportunity to join our busy Legal Services team. You will be a solicitor, barrister or legal executive who will be committed to our aim of providing a first-class service of legal advice and representation to the Chief Constable and
all officers and staff.
We deal with new and unusual legal matters every day, but in general we give policy, strategic and operational legal advice to officers and police staff at all levels
across a range of disciplines. We also conduct “non-claims” litigation, e.g. Antisocial Behaviour Orders; Sexual Offences Prevention Orders and Risk of Sexual Harm Orders; Closure Orders; Proceeds of Crime Act applications; Police (Property)
Act and Interpleader; Football Banning Orders; licensing and firearms licensing; disclosure; and judicial review. Investigating civil claims for damages against the force and conducting the defence and settlement of such claims are also part of our responsibilities.
Recent growth in the range and volume of our work means that this newly- created post can be shaped and developed by individuals who are newly-qualified or an experienced lawyer looking to apply their skills to a new challenge.
You will have a professional legal qualification and practising certificate as a solicitor, barrister or legal executive. You will also have proven ability to act as advocate and litigator along with the ability and commitment to promote equality, diversity and Human Rights in working practices. The ability to travel around the
force area is also essential.
