Interested in developing yourself and supporting others in their development? This busy and varied role as an Assistant Team Manager could be your first step into management in our Families Directorate, which provides an holistic, co-ordinated service responsive to the needs of children and their families.

Surrey was one of the first local authorities to integrate its social care and education services for children with the aim of progressively shifting the balance of our work to prevention through early identification and intervention. Assistant Team Managers are key to this, helping the Team Manager oversee the running of a front line operational social care team, you’ll ensure that we provide effective services to all our service users, as well as managing caseloads and risk appropriately and being involved in the longer term planning of services. We’ll count on you to provide professional guidance, advice and support to less experienced staff, helping them develop and ensuring that best professional practice and standards are maintained within the team and across the Service.

The management teams are committed to ongoing improvement through professional development and performance management across all key areas of service delivery with a keen focus on process improvement to ensure effective use of resources and enhance team responsiveness. Our teams have forward-thinking Business Plans, which promote equality and diversity, performance management and the continued development of integrated working.

A GSCC registered, professionally qualified social worker with significant experience of child protection and risk management and ideally with some supervisory experience, you’ll be able to demonstrate a thorough knowledge and understanding of undertaking assessments, care planning and legal proceedings, together with the necessary IT and time management skills to enable you to work effectively and efficiently in this busy role.
