We have recently restructured our Estates and Facilities team and are now looking for individuals to play a vital role in the maintenance and improvement of our built assets. A team-focused and professional approach is needed for these demanding roles with the senior position reporting to our Head of Street Scene (Environmental Services?). You will take responsibility for a variety of tasks including the provision of expert advice to the council on estates management and the maintenance of our buildings, including offices, leisure centres, depots, car parks and public toilets, and integrating the function within the wider council structure.

The Council has recently brought the Home Improvement Agency work in house and a key part of your role will be to co-ordinate, design, tendering and commissioning of work for vulnerable households on the district, while also supporting the Estates and Facilities section in delivering the planned maintenance programme and estates inspections. You will help to ensure that the team is equipped with the skills needed to meet the changing needs of the building industry and the local community.

To be considered, you will need to combine your relevant professional qualification with a minimum of three years’ post-qualification experience in either estates management or building maintenance and delivery of construction related projects. You will also need to be up to date with related Government legislation. It is very important that you are IT literate, with a sound familiarity with the MS Office suite and CAD.

For an informal discussion about the post please call Ian Charles, Environmental Health Manager on 01993 861346.

Closing date for the return of application forms is Friday 5 September 2008.

We anticipate interviewing for Building Surveyor on Tuesday 16th September 2008.

Benefits for the above positions include a minimum of 24 days annual leave; generous final salary pension scheme; subsidised car loan scheme; childcare vouchers; discounted membership of the Council’s leisure facilities and private medical insurance (dependent on grade).
