Business Manager

Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals (BSUH) is an acute teaching hospital working across two sites: the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton and the Princess Royal Hospital in Haywards Heath. The Brighton campus includes the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital and the Sussex Eye Hospital, and the Haywards Heath campus includes the Hurstwood Park Regional Centre for Neurosciences. On the 1st April BSUH became a Major Trauma Centre.

Working within Specialist Services, this division covers multiple, large specialist areas within the hospital which are undergoing major positive changes at present.

These positive changes have meant there is now a requirement for a Business Manager to support the Associate Director of Operations and the Clinicians across these specialist divisions.

The main purpose of this position is to play a leadership role in the development, delivery and performance management of the specialised services division including; leading on matters of business management, project management, service improvement, capital development, data management and contract negotiation and monitoring.

The key responsibilities for the role include:

Business management – assisting clinicians in producing business plans and cases, understanding the financial implications and costings, capacity and demand, procurement processes and the ability to produce complex and concise reports with analytical commentary
Project management – a proven track record of successful project management, and the ability to demonstrate an understanding of financial accountability and the current financial pressures of current economic environment in the public sector
Commercial experience – the ability to negotiate with contractors and suppliers, understanding the changing environment of the Health service and service commissions
Strong communication skills -the ability to negotiate, influence and liaise with internal and external staff including the CFO, COO and numerous clinicians and consulting medical staff, local authorities and patient and public groups, strong communication skills are essential for this role.

Educated to degree level or higher, the successful candidate will have a financial awareness, experience of project management, the ability meet challenging corporate and personal targets and an understanding of NHS service frameworks and developments.
