In this post you will be working at the centre of the County Council providing support to a number of our Select Committees.
Working closely with the Scrutiny Manager and Officer, it will be your role to provide Committee management to ensure that meetings run smoothly and that County Councillors are adequately supported in their scrutiny roles. In doing this, you will be required to administer meetings by preparing committee agendas, reports and minutes, as well as drawing attention to procedural issues when required.
You’ll also need to work with the team to consider how to engage the public in the work of the Select Committees, for example through producing information leaflets or by updating the Council’s web pages.
The ability to manage a number of competing deadlines, work to agreed procedures and produce minutes of a high standard are key to this role. Interpersonal skills are also important, as you will need to work closely with County Councillors and Senior Officers throughout the organisation. Experience of working with Committees is desirable although by no means essential.
For an informal discussion regarding the role please call Jacqui Hird, Scrutiny Manager on 020 8541 9006.
Surrey County Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
We want to be an inclusive and diverse employer of first choice, reflecting the community we serve and particularly welcome applications from all under represented groups.
