The Christchurch and East Dorset Partnership is looking for a forward thinking individual to join their busy Housing Enabling Team based in Christchurch. 

The successful candidate will enable, initiate and support community-led housing initiatives and self-build projects to develop both affordable and general market housing across the Partnership area. The role will involve liaison with and support of community groups and individual self-builders and negotiation with parish councillors, landowners, developers and registered housing providers.

Working alongside the Housing Enabling Team Leader and in conjunction with both Planning Policy and Housing Teams the post holder will:

• Identify and develop opportunities for community-led and self-build housing development across the Christchurch and East Dorset Council partnership area.

• Champion the need for community-led housing and support community-led housing and self-build groups and assist them in accessing capacity-building, training and funding.

• Assist community-led housing groups to conduct Housing Needs Surveys and commission and conduct feasibility studies.

The successful candidate will have experience of working in a planning, housing or community development role and ideally experience of community-led housing development and/or self-build (can be in non-professional capacity such as voluntary work).

Knowledge of housing development processes and finance and experience of liaising with community groups, housing providers, developers and landowners is desirable. The ability to communicate effectively in a variety of settings/media to a range of people will be essential.

This is a full time, post, but may be suitable for job share, or as a secondment. The post will be based at the partnership’s attractive office location in Christchurch, but options for home based and flexible working are also available.
