Newham is the primary host borough for the London 2012 Olympic Games and is home to the recently opened Westfield Stratford, Europe’s biggest indoor shopping centre. Significant regeneration developments are underway throughout the borough. The borough has a vibrant local community with busy local shopping high streets and large residential areas. This is an exciting time to join the Council and the Enforcement and Safety Service as we continue to tackle crime and anti social behaviour and help to create a borough where people choose to live, work and stay.

The post reports to the Senior Community Safety Analyst in the Safer Newham Partnership Team, providing analytical support to the Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership (CDRP), the Enforcement and Safety Division and other services in the Council. The overall purpose of the job is to contribute to the clear understanding of the nature of crime and anti-social behaviour (ASB) in Newham, enabling the Council and other partners to develop, implement and monitor intervention activities. Key tasks include:

· analysing quantitative and qualitative data and intelligence to identify and interpret trends and patterns in crime and ASB.

· liaising with other analysts, council officers and partner agencies to support problem-solving activities.

· providing analytical products/reports to senior management and others to facilitate effective targeting of resources.

This is a permanent role, 36 hours per week on a flexi-time basis, with 23 days annual leave.

The Person

We are seeking an enthusiastic and proactive individual who shares our desire to help make Newham a safer community and can demonstrate:· Experience in crime or intelligence analysis, and/or analytical training, e.g. through the Jill Dando Institute of Crime Science, Research & Intelligence Support Centre (RISC) or equivalent provider.

· Advanced research, analytical, problem solving and creative thinking skills.

· A high standard of written communication and presentation skills.

· An ability to work cooperatively with a wide range of people.

· Knowledge of relevant IT systems such as MS Office, GIS, SPSS, and databases.

A degree in a relevant field such as social research, criminology or geographical information systems is required.
