Council Tax and Benefits Officer

The Job

Council Tax & Benefits Officer Salary: £23,970 p.a. The London Borough of Newham is looking for staff experienced in the assessment of Housing and Council Tax Benefit/Council Tax Reduction and/or all aspects of billing and recovery for Council Tax. As well as being experienced in either Benefit assessment or Council Tax collection/recovery, the successful applicants will be enthusiastic to work directly with customers and committed to providing excellent customer service. You will be required to deal with customers over the telephone and face-to-face (including at court for Council Tax and assessing benefit by appointment). Along with a high standard of customer service skills, you will need to be firm but fair when dealing with our taxpayers and be able to negotiate appropriate payment plans.

The Person

You need to have a good practical understanding of Housing and Council Tax Benefit and/or Council Tax legislation and have excellent numerical, written and verbal communication skills.

Knowledge of other welfare benefits will also be an advantage. If you are motivated, flexible and able to work well within a team, and have good IT skills we want to hear from you. If you are shortlisted, you will be required to sit a written test. Closing date: 27th May 2013
