Council Tax and Benefits Officers

As the Council has a normal retirement age of 65, the maximum age for recruiting new employees will usually be 64 1/2.

The London Borough of Newham is looking for staff experienced in the assessment of Housing and Council Tax Benefit and/or all aspects of billing and recovery for Council Tax. As well as being experienced in benefit assessment or Council Tax recovery the successful applicants will be enthusiastic to work directly with customers and committed to providing excellent customer service. The Council Tax and Benefit service is delivered frontline from 10 locations around the borough and successful candidates must be prepared to work at any of these.

The service is facing significant challenges over the next 12 months, including migration to a new IT system. This environment will create opportunities for our staff to gain new skills and enhance their professional development.

Newham offers a good salary scheme with opportunities for progression to PO1 for staff with the right skills and a willingness to learn and develop. Starting salary will depend on previous experience, knowledge and ability.
