Geographic Information Systems (GIS) are key to The Coal Authority’s operational and commercial activities and centre on the use of products from Star-APIC and ESRI. The Authority’s Mining Reports and Surface Damage (MRSDS) service currently produces around 500,000 coal mining reports per annum.

The Role:-
Management of the specialist Data team and reporting to the Senior Mining Information Manager you will:

  • Take a lead role in the development of GIS based software
  • Be responsible for maintaining the accuracy of information within the database
  • Perform bespoke GIS based queries and data extracts
  • Provide technical support to the MRSDS service
  • Assist with the design and development of new software.

The Ideal Candidate Will Preferably Have:-

  • A degree or equivalent in GIS or an associated relevant discipline
  • Experience of working with maps and map based computer systems
  • Experience of Geographic Information Systems, Microsoft and Unix Operating systems and Microsoft Office software
  • A good understanding of map and co-ordinate systems and their usage in conjunction with mining engineering
  • The ability to prioritise workloads and to meet tight deadlines whilst managing a high and varied workload
  • A flexible and pro-active approach, be self motivated, confident and an enthusiastic team player.
