The Job
£33,510 pa inc.
Every Child a Musician offers free instrumental tuition for every child in Year 5 and 6 across Newham. The Programme is one of the Mayor’s priorities and has a high profile both externally and within the Council. The offer to children is for free instrumental tuition for two school years, as well as a free musical instrument. The Programme is from September 2012 expanding to year 7, it is anticipated that it will expand further and widen its offer. This will result in the provision of music lessons to approximately 10,000 children. The Programme is currently managed by the Council and delivered in partnership with primary schools across the borough. The Council manages:
- The outreach and scoping with individual school * Taster sessions with parents and students * Timetabling * Instrument sourcing and delivery * Tutor recruitment and training * Instrument study Programmes and the quality assurance of tutor work.
As the Programme expands into year 7 additional functions will be developed within the Team.
Building excellent relationships with schools is critical to the success of the Programme, as are robust systems to manage information between 66 primary schools and 15 secondary schools, up to 150 tutors and up to 10,000 children. As the Programme expands into year 7 building excellent relationships with secondary schools joining the Programme is paramount.
- The post holder will play a lead role in establishing good relationships and partnership working with the secondary schools and other key stake holders.
- The post holder will have a key role in setting up a robust framework for managing and monitoring performance, data collection and analysis of the Programme
The post holder may be required to work evenings, weekends and occasional public holidays, in order to support specific service requirements
1. To play a key role in developing, promoting and delivering the Every Child a Musician Programme objectives.
2. To be responsible for establishing the infrastructure required to expand the Programme to additional year groups. For example the boroughs’ year 7 children coming into the Programme in September 2012.
3. To be responsible for managing the delivery of the Programme to new pupil year groups coming into the Programme for the first time. To be responsible for resolving all day to day delivery issues and challenges.
4. To manage dedicated portfolios and initiatives. To lead in developing policy and new projects which could include:
§ To lead on data analysis to ensure that, performance against targets is accurately measured and reported. To be responsible for data management within the Team and develop ICT systems to enable all reports to be electronically generated. To produce reports in a format appropriate for the various audiences explaining the meaning of the data analysis and how it should be used.
§ To lead in the development of the Teams relationships with external stakeholders , to enhance ECAMs reputation and support achievement of business goals. For example the expansion of the Programme requires strong working relationships to be developed with the boroughs’ 15 secondary schools.
