Contract: Permanent – Full Time – 35 hours

Salary: £37,851-£40,506 (PO4)

Location: Town Hall Extension, Argyle Street, London. WC1H 8NP

Team: Culture and Environment – Economic Development

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Economic Development Officer to join Camden Council’s Economic Development Team within the Culture and Environment Directorate. The Economic development team aims to help create a local business environment which supports sustainable economic growth and retention, and improve access to local skills and employment and to create opportunities for residents.

As an Economic Development Officer, you will be required to work flexibly to support the Head of Economic Development and the senior management team to deliver economic development and employment priorities. You will be responsible for the collection and analysis of local economic data, policy and strategy development, research and project management. You will need to build and maintain strong networks and relationships with key partners and officers from across the council and be able to spot economic development challenges and opportunities. You will be expected to work across employment, skills and business.

Key Requirements

Qualifications/Knowledge:

  • A qualification in Economics, Urban Regeneration or related discipline is essential
  • Up to date knowledge of broad range of economic development policy, strategy and delivery, including business support and development, employment, skills enterprise and labour market issues is essential
  • Knowledge of employment, skills and business data is advantageous
  • Economic development theory and practice relating to business growth and development, employment and training/ skills

Skills and Behaviours:

  • Highly adaptable and flexible to enable efficient use of resources across work areas
  • Strong communication skills at all levels with particular ability to engage and persuade partners across all sectors and Councillors
  • Excellent interpersonal skills sufficient to support partnership formation and continue to improve relationships between the council and economic development partners
  • Proven ability to prepare and present clear and concise reports including ability to analyse and interpret quantitative and qualitative data
  • Ability to prioritise and manage workloads effectively to meet agreed deadlines and targets

Experience:

  • Experience of cross sector strategy and project/programme development (across private, public and voluntary sectors)
  • Experience of working in negotiation with others to lobby for local needs
