Full time: 42 hrs per week, rota shift

An opportunity has arisen to work as a Fire Control Operator within our Control Room for a fixed term period until 2011 at our Headquarters at Waterwells Business Park, Quedgeley.

The successful applicants will form an integral part of the team of Control Operators whose primary role is to receive emergency calls from members of the public and mobilises appliances and Fire-fighters to deal with incidents throughout the county.

Our Control Room is equipped with a fully computerised mobilising system for receiving and recording emergency calls. You will be required to work a rotating shift pattern of 42 hours per week and will be required to work days, nights, weekends and bank holidays.

It is essential that you have a confident telephone manner, good keyboard skills, preferably with audio experience, together with the ability to think and communicate quickly and clearly. Ideally you will have experience of working in a team environment and be able to demonstrate the ability to respond positively to pressure by working effectively in stressful situations. You will have reasonable standards of both verbal and written English.

Selection will be by entrance tests and an interview.
