This is an opportunity to join an exciting team delivering council wide Geographical Information System (GIS) services using MapInfo, intranet and internet mapping applications and managing the Local Land and Property Gazetteer (LLPG).

North Somerset’s GIS is a core information system providing information to council staff, to the general public and to partner organisations. It will continue to develop as an important means of supporting e-government initiatives.

You will report to the Performance and Resources Manager (Information) within ICT. You will, as part of a wider team, make an important contribution to the maintenance and development of GIS across the council. You will capture and quality assure information within the GIS using Ordnance Survey mapping and the latest software. You will provide customer support as well as take part in GIS projects. You will be expected to support Street Naming and Numbering and Land Charge Searches functions as required. You will need to do all this as well as demonstrate excellent performance in your day to day work.

Previous experience in the use of GIS for digitising and data capture is essential. Also required are good communication skills and the ability to work to deadlines.

You will need to have NVQ Level 3, 2/3 “A” Levels or equivalent qualification in an ICT or related discipline. The Council will provide training in the software and processes to the selected candidate.
