As the Council has a normal retirement age of 65, the maximum age for recruiting new employees will usually be 64 1/2.
We currently have opportunities for experienced HR professionals, preferably with previous local government or public sector experience.
You will be responsible for working on a range of employee relations issues, and must be experienced in advising and supporting managers to deal with conduct, capability and grievance issues. You will also be expected to have a good knowledge of implementing change and must have experience of working in a unionised environment.
The work is challenging and fast paced, and so you will need to be someone who thrives in this environment.
You must be highly organised, have excellent communication skills and have a pragmatic customer focussed approach to your work.
The Council reserves the right to close adverts early if there is a large response.
Equal Opportunities
The London Borough of Newham recognises that everyone in Newham has the right to play a full part in the life of the borough. This means that everyone should have equal access to council services, job opportunities and to having their voices heard.
It is the council’s position that everyone should be treated fairly, without discrimination and with respect of their human rights, regardless of their gender, race, age, disability, sexual orientation, HIV status, religion, national or social origin or class.
