If the answer to these questions is yes, then you could be one of the individuals we are looking for.
We are seeking to appoint two independent members to our Audit Committee whose role is to review the effectiveness of the financial and other systems of internal control and audit within the Council.
We are also seeking to appoint one independent member to our Standards Committee. Its role is to oversee the standards of behaviour of members and advise on good practice in relation to ethics and probity as well as hearing cases on potential breaches of the Council’s Code of Conduct.
What are the requirements?
For both posts we are looking for the following qualities:
- be able to analyse information and question effectively
- tact and good interpersonal skills* good communication skills
- be able and willing to maintain confidentiality
- high standards of personal integrity
For the Audit Committee you should have experience either within a financial, accounting or audit background or of governance issues more generally.
To be eligible to apply you should not:
- have been a member or employee of Islington in the past 5 years or currently be a member or officer of another authority
- be a relative or close friend of a member or employee of the Council
- hold any current political office
- have had contact with the Council which could be seen as prejudicial to your independence
What does the Council offer?
Support and suitable training will be provided to the selected applicants. An allowance of £117 per meeting will be made for undertaking this role.
