Labour Market Economist

Yorkshire Forward is the Regional Development Agency charged with improving the Yorkshire and Humber economy – currently worth in excess of £80 billion and boasting some 300,000 businesses. Yorkshire Forward is developing this extraordinary potential, to make our region a truly world class location in which to live, work and invest.

This is a key strategic role, where you’ll assist in the connection of Yorkshire Forward’s econometric and economic forecasting capacity, to the monitoring of policy assessment of public sector skills intervention.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Take full responsibility for the corporate skills and labour market research programme
  • Provide technical input, advice and guidance to support Yorkshire Forward’s skills interventions in the use and application of economic intelligence
  • Support the Principal Economist and the Chief Economist in providing technical support and professional input on skills issues, with regard to our ongoing dialogue with the region’s business community
  • Provide dedicated analytical support to the full spectrum of Economic Inclusion Directorate Skills and labour market activities.

Person Profile:

  • Educated to degree level in Economics, ideally backed by a post graduate qualification in labour market economics or analysis
  • Substantial experience of the Office of National Statistics’ full range of secondary regional economic intelligence products, in particular the core skills and labour market components
  • Experience of commissioning socio-economic research projects within a skills delivery environment
  • A high level of understanding of the build, use and application of core primary labour and skills surveys.
  • Highly numerate and data literate, with a clear eye for detail and structural change and patterns of structural change within time series economic data.
  • Excellent team working, communication, presentation and influencing skills.
  • Strong project management abilities.
