We are looking for a Markets Development Manager to lead and manage all street trading for Camden within Environment Services. This role has full management responsibilities for this traded service including; staffing costs, recruitment and development, as well as the management of significant traded service budgets (circa £1M).

The successful candidate will have developmental and operational management responsibility for street trading including all markets and kiosks as well as liaison with external bodies, residents and visitors, traders, Councillors, and BID’s and internally with Strategy and Improvement, Contact Camden and Economic Development to develop the future strategy. You will also be required to develop a strategy to increase income through promoting sales and to make efficiencies from innovations to the services and to deliver on projects arising from these strategies.Key Requirements

Key Requirements:

In order to submit a successful application, candidates must be able to evidence the criteria in the job description and the criteria detailed below:

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of street trading including the London Local Authorities Act
  • Knowledge of the principal responsibilities of, and the key issues in providing and managing licensed and unlicensed street trading activity
  • Knowledge of contract management including conditions of contract, specifications, financial and budgetary control of contracts
  • Knowledge of the environmental issues facing an inner London Borough
  • Knowledge of quality initiatives and customer care issues

Skills / Experience:

  • Ability to manage staff and partnership structures effectively
  • Ability to task resources and manage interventions in an evidence based manner
  • Awareness of the political environment
  • Experience of dealing with the public, face to face and ability to defuse confrontational situations
  • Ability to analyse data and use a wide range of IT systems
