Maths (including Functional Skills) Teacher

Permanent contract – MPS

The New Directions PRU makes provision for young people at Key Stage 4 who have become disengaged from mainstream education. An innovative, full-time, curriculum is delivered at a number of venues with a range of partners. Students follow a Foundation Learning curriculum in Functional Skills, Personal Development and Work Based Learning. Our OFSTED inspection in September 2012 found New Directions to be good in all areas.

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic Maths (Functional Skills) teacher to join our supportive multi-disciplinary team in delivering our Functional Skills Programme of Maths, English, ICT and PSD. You will have:-

• A passion for re-engaging and motivating young people through the design and delivery of innovative and practical approaches to learning.

• Proven ability to teach both Maths and English from Entry Level 1 through to Level 2.

• Proven experience of working with students with challenging behaviour and complex SEBD preferable in a PRU setting.

Staff and will be based at the Turnaround Programme at The Storey Centre in North Woolwich, E16 2LS. Students follow a personalised learning programme for Functional Skills leading to nationally recognised accreditation through Edexcel and Asdan.

Salary scale on MPS for a suitably qualified and experienced teacher

Starting salary will be dependent on previous training and experience.

Previous experience in off site education would be an advantage. Applications are invited from teachers with experience in either primary or secondary education or post 16 education.
