A temporary vacancy has arisen at Nailsea Social Services for an Occupational Therapy Aide (OTA) to assist the qualified occupational therapists in providing a service to disabled adults. Initially for 6 months, this may be longer depending on the circumstances of the present post holder.
Under supervision, you will provide a service to adults with long term physical disabilities and their carers, undertaking assessments of functional ability, risk and care needs mainly within their home environment. You will then take appropriate action to promote independent living taking account of service user’s chosen goals, relevant legislation, government and departmental policy. Knowledge of the appropriate legislation in relation to the provision of services provided by the Local Authority including equipment and minor adaptations would be desirable.
Previous experience of working with elderly and disabled people is essential and a formal social services or health qualification e.g. NVQ Level 3 Promoting Independence would be desirable.
You must have the ability to communicate effectively verbally (including by telephone) and in writing. You must also be able to adapt and respond to requests or requirements at short notice, work as a member of a team, demonstrate an ability to form and maintain good working relationships, both with service users and members of other agencies and colleagues.
The area covered by Nailsea Social Services is predominately rural and thus will involve a fair amount of travel.
