Somerset County Council has pledged to significantly improve the standard of social care it provides for vulnerable children. The fruits of this pledge are begining to come to fruition. The investment of £6 million and agreement for up to a further 100 front line social workers respectively means caseloads are set to drop to 14 children per social worker. We are determined to deliver on this standard and by August 2015 caseloads had already reached an average of 17 children per social worker

Somerset County Council understands the cornerstone of any thriving service is its employees. With this in mind we strive to create a supportive, nurturing culture through regular reflective supervision and a comprehensive corporate training programme. Strong connections with Bournemouth and Bristol Universities mean we are able to ensure our staff develop the skills, expertise and knowledge they need to be the best at all stages of their social work career.

The care of our vulnerable children is of paramount importance to us and we will not stop until we’re confident in the success of our improvement journey. Although this process is still in its early stages, it offers a real opportunity to help shape the service and see the difference it makes to children’s lives. If this is an idea that excites and enthuses you then please read on.

Are you ready for a new challenge? **

As a senior manager within the service, you’ll play a key role in shaping and transforming services for our children. We have an appetite for change, and place quality at the heart of everything we do, with the aim of achieving positive outcomes for all involved. We want you to help us to continue our improvement journey and actively promote a culture of innovation and improvement.

You’ll lead an experienced team of managers and practitioners across assessment and safeguarding , who are committed to delivering innovative and exciting projects, aimed at supporting the best possible outcomes for ourr children. As a natural leader, you will engage and motivate your team and manage supervision, recruitment and performance levels, as well as ensure the professional development of social work staff.

You’ll work closely with other senior managers within the service, and cultivate and develop close working relationships. Whilst networking with your peers, you’ll act as an ambassador for best practice within safeguarding and care planning. You’ll also work closely with our external partners and quickly gain credibility, to further strengthen our reputation across the region.

This role could be your next promotional opportunity.

To be successful, you’ll be able to demonstrate relevant experience within safeguarding and assessment services, working at either team manager or operations manager level. As a problem solver, with a passion for improving services, you will be able to evidence a successful track record with demonstrable outcomes and achievements.

If you feel our agenda excites you then we very much want to hear from you.

We understand a move such as this is a big decision for you, and your family, but we will endeavour to help you as much as we can to take an informed decision. As such, we welcome informal enquiries and visits – if you like you can come and meet our team, whether this is before you submit an application, or at another point in the selection process.
