Details

Tower Hamlets Council has just achieved a prestigious 4-star rating and Children’s Services were judged as “outstanding” in the Joint Area Review of Children’s Services that took place at the same time. Working with our partners one of our key commitments is to develop a comprehensive range of services to support parents. We know that parents, carers and families are the most important influence on outcomes for children and young people

The Parents Advice Centre plays a key role in the development of our Family and Parenting Strategy. As well as providing the Tower Hamlets Parent Partnership Service for parents/carers of children with special educational needs, the experienced team of ten staff also offers advice, information and support to parents around exclusions and admissions. The Centre has Chartermark status and benchmarks its performance against the DCSF Standards for PPSs.

Some members of the team are involved in delivering the Choice Admissions Advice Service, targeting those parents least likely to engage with the secondary transfer process. Others combine their advice work with facilitating the ‘Strengthening Families, Strengthening Communities’ Parenting Programme for groups of parents in schools and community organisations.

We are looking for a versatile, creative manager to lead a very talented and committed team. Experience of work with parents of children with special educational needs and vulnerable families in an educational context is essential. The postholder should have a good understanding of recent SEN legislation and be familiar with the ways in which schools can effectively engage parents/carers in their children’s learning and development.

Interviews for the post will be held on 8th October 2008

Tower Hamlets is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. A CRB enhanced disclosure that is satisfactory to us will be a condition of appointment.

Equal Opportunities

We shall ensure fairness and equal opportunities throughout our workforce and in service delivery. We welcome applications from suitably skilled candidates regardless of ethnicity, gender, disability, sexuality, religion or age.
