The post offers the opportunity to gain valuable experience in an enthusiastic and dedicated Development Management Team. You will be given the opportunity to manage your own caseload of planning applications and be involved in providing written pre-application advice and follow-up meetings.
The Lancaster District offers an enviable and diverse mix of development activity which will help you further your planning career. You will be responsible for determining minor and some medium-scale planning applications within the historic City of Lancaster, the seaside town of Morecambe, the port and residential area of Heysham, and in our rural areas, which includes the market town of Carnforth and two Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
You should have an appropriate planning-related degree or an equivalent qualification. You should also be able to demonstrate relevant experience within a Development Management environment, which would ideally include some experience of determining planning applications.
The post holder will carry out site visits across the District every week and may cover up to 50 miles during any one day, including areas that are not served by public transport. As such the post holder will need to hold a current, full UK driving licence.
The post is based at Morecambe Town Hall and is full-time, 37 hours per week. The Council currently operates a Flexible Working Hours Scheme. This post will be designated as a casual vehicle user.
