Located in Surrey with excellent travel links to London, Elmbridge Borough Council is looking for an enthusiastic member of staff who would relish the challenge of managing a substantial and varied caseload.

The post offers scope for either an experienced planner seeking new challenges, or someone just starting out on their planning career. A successful applicant will have the opportunity to undertake all aspects of development management work, including the determination of applications for planning permission and handling of planning appeals. We are committed to staff development and offer comprehensive training, including the opportunity to study for an RTPI accredited Masters degree in Planning.

The section is one of the busiest in the country and sets very high standards for the delivery of planning decisions within government targets. This has continually been recognised by the award of Customer Service Excellence and ‘Excellent’ status. The Planning Services team also won ‘Highly Commended’ in the 2015 Royal Town Planning Institute’s Local Authority Planning Team of the Year awards. The Borough maintains heavy demands for development and equally strong pressure to protect the local environment. It covers extensive high quality residential areas, large areas of Green Belt, an important stretch of the Thames and several Conservation Areas and Listed Buildings.

Salary will depend on qualifications and experience. In return, Elmbridge Borough Council offers a pleasant working environment, competitive salary, opportunities for career progression and work-life balance.
