The Planning Policy Teams at Lewes District and Eastbourne Borough Councils have recently merged, and we have appointed a new Head of Planning and Planning Policy Lead. We are now recruiting to the other posts that form part of the restructure to ensure we have a full complement of staff to deal with the work programmes across both Councils.

We are looking for a suitable candidate who wishes to become part of Eastbourne and Lewes Councils joint Planning Policy team. The team is tasked with preparing, monitoring, reviewing and influencing the plans and strategies that direct and influence development and change in Lewes district and Eastbourne Borough. The team also undertakes the implementation of the two Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) Charging Schedules, which have been operational over 17 months for Lewes District Council and 2 years for Eastbourne Borough Council.
This role will play a key part in the implementation and monitoring of both Councils’ CIL, as well as contributing towards policy and strategy formulation and review. This will include taking the lead on Strategic Environmental Assessment and Sustainability Appraisal for our plan-making.
This role is ideal for either someone who is at the beginning of or looking to commence a career in the planning profession, or someone with some planning experience and who is keen to develop their knowledge and experience in a wide range of policy matters.
Lewes District Council and Eastbourne Borough Council have agreed to integrate staff and services in order to provide more flexible, customer focussed and cost-effective services, which includes a new ICT strategy to support flexible working practices. Joint working has already begun across a number of Council functions and areas of work including planning policy. There will therefore be an expectation for the appointed officers to work across both authorities.
