Following the appointment of the current postholder to another position elsewhere, we are looking to make a temporary appointment to this busy role until the post is advertised on a permanent basis later this year. Consequently this is a rare opportunity to gain knowledge and experience of working in a political environment in a progressive London local authority at a time of significant change and challenge.
Waltham Forest Council has a joint Labour/Liberal Democrat administration, with Labour councillors forming the largest political group but without an overall majority. This post is a key position responsible for supporting the work of the Labour Group, assisting the Leader of the Group(who is also Leader of the Council) and Labour Group Officers.
As well as assisting Group Members working on complex policy initiatives and policy development, the postholder will also undertake research and analysis on behalf of the Leader, and prepare reports and briefing material for the Group.
Consequently, we are looking for someone who would be able to take up this temporary appointment fairly soon, who has excellent written and verbal communication skills, a good understanding and knowledge of the local government legal framework, experience of undertaking political research, and of course highly developed political sensitivity and awareness.
If this sounds interesting but you would like to find out more, please contact the existing postholder, Jane Edbrooke, on 020 8496 4896.
