Contract: Fixed Term Contract for 12 months – Full Time – 35 hours

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Support Worker to join Camden Council’s Economic Development Team within the Culture and Environment Directorate. Join Camden Apprenticeships, the borough’s flagship apprenticeship programme, to help local young people and local businesses get the most from their apprenticeships. We have ambitions to increase the number of young people completing apprenticeships and this role will play a key part in realising these ambitions.

As the Post Employment Support Worker you will be responsible for mentoring and supporting apprentices to stay in employment across various sectors ranging from construction through to hairdressing. You will act as a main point of contact working with relevant key professionals to ensure full support is delivered to the apprentices and will be responsible for assisting them in overcoming any issues that arise. You will provide ongoing support for both the employer and apprentice via forums, face-to-face meetings and online tools/databases, and will manage quarterly apprentice and supervisor forums to gather feedback and improve service delivery.

As part of your position you will support the workplace co-ordinators to organise and deliver recruitment events as well as supporting apprentices coming to the end of their programme to progress into higher apprenticeships, permanent employment or further/higher education.

This role will be challenging for the successful individual as a high volume of case loads will need to be managed effectively, setting and maintaining high standards of work at all time.

Key Requirements

Qualifications/Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of key stakeholders in supporting people nationally, locally and regionally
  • Strong understanding of key policies and strategies involved with apprenticeship schemes and training
  • A good understanding of recruitment needs of pubic and private sector employees in line with apprenticeships is desirable
  • Knowledge of factors that improve the chances of sustained employment for young people and developing solutions to overcome any challenges or obstacles

Skills/Behaviours:

  • Ability to build and maintain relationships and form effective partnerships at all levels is essential, using diplomatic and networking skills to work proactively.
  • Ability to take ownership of a large workload and manage this effectively to meet agreed deadlines and maintain a high quality of work and service
  • Ability to develop and deliver interventions that support development on a 1:1 basis and in groups

Experience:

  • Experience of working with individuals to assess their needs
  • Experience of setting targets to support achievements of learning outcomes and obstacles as to remain in apprenticeships or employment
  • Experience of working with professionals from support services, and across other agencies/departments to achieve agreed outcomes
