Harrogate is one of the largest and most attractive rural Districts in England. It has a rich built heritage with 52 Conservation Areas, nearly 3,000 Listed Buildings and a World Heritage Site.
The Heritage and Design Team plays a leading role in the protection and enhancement of this high quality environment. It is actively involved in supporting preparation of the Local Development Framework, advising on planning and listed building applications, preparing guidance and administering heritage grant schemes.
The team faces a number of key challenges in the next few years including the review of all our conservation areas, the rescue of listed buildings at risk and the preparation of concept statements and development briefs for the sites identified in the LDF.
We are looking for a new Principal Conservation Officer to help in meeting these challenges.
You must be educated to a degree level in a relevant built environment field such as architecture, building conservation, urban design or planning and have membership of the RIBA or MRTPI, together with membership of the IHBC. Familiarity with the planning system and knowledge of the legislation and guidance relating to listed buildings and conservation areas are essential. You must also have the ability to apply sound design principles and solve problems creatively. Current driving licence is essential.
If you would like to discuss the post informally, please contact Ann Johnson, Principal Conservation and Design Officer on 01423-556591
