With a population of 150,000 and covering 500 square miles, Harrogate is one of the largest shire districts in England. Located to the north of the Leeds/Bradford conurbation, between the Yorkshire Dales and the City of York, the district has a high quality environment with a variety of settlements from the sub-regional town of Harrogate to the upland villages of Nidderdale.

We are looking for someone to be the Council’s expert on transportation, providing policy advice and securing improvements to the transport network. With the ability to engage effectively with decision makers inside and outside the Council, you will have a key role in ensuring that the Council’s transport priorities are reflected in local, City-Region and regional strategies.

Working as part of the Planning Policy Team, you will be responsible for delivering the transport objectives of the recently adopted LDF Core Strategy and provide specialist advice on highway and transport aspects of the emerging Sites and Policies document.

With an appropriate degree, you will have substantial experience of transport planning in a policy environment and have excellent communication and analytical skills.
