This is an exciting opportunity to work within a small team in the city of Brighton & Hove to help us deliver safe, well managed accommodation for our residents living in private sector housing. The post will be in the Private Sector Housing Team.

The team is responsible for delivering licensing of larger houses in multiple occupation (HMOs) city-wide plus two additional licensing schemes for smaller HMOs in 12 wards of the city and dealing with service requests from residents.

We are looking for 2 enthusiastic and highly-motivated individuals who wish to progress in the field of private sector housing in the role of Private Sector Housing Officer. You must be educated to NVQ Level 4 in building studies, environmental health housing law or fire safety, or have equivalent knowledge gained from relevant experience of assessing residential properties in terms of design, construction and health & safety issues. A working knowledge of the relevant Housing Act, Building Act or Public Health legislation would be an advantage.

You will have effective organisational, communication and IT skills and be flexible in response to caseload demands, undertaking inspections, assessing and reporting on conditions in residential premises.
