As a council that spends over £340 million a year with around 3,500 suppliers, we fully recognise the contribution that effective, forward-thinking and innovative procurement practices bring, especially as budgets become increasingly tight and demographics continue to change.

Our award winning and highly regarded procurement service is positioned to progressively achieve further cost savings and other targeted benefits through the adoption of the Category Management approach to procurement.

As our Procurement Category Manager for Health and Social Care you will play a critical role in managing the team and working with key stakeholders to control expenditure, as well as helping achieve social value and stimulating the local economy.

You will take the lead in developing the Category Plan and in delivering the objectives and targets, as identified in the Plan. All the while retaining a clear focus on improving the outcomes for our service users and achieving best value.

This role will offer you ample scope to use your creativity to plan and implement procurement projects that make a valuable contribution to the council and our most vulnerable children and adults. You will work closely and collaboratively with service managers throughout this process, as well as ensure Category Officers work effectively in delivering against required priorities.

About you

As the successful candidate, you will be a full or part member of MCIPS or have the equivalent practical experience and, ideally, previous management experience.

You will have a good understanding of public sector procurement, together with a well-developed category knowledge in people orientated services. You will also have a good grasp, as well as a passion, for helping achieve the highest level of equality and the best possible outcomes for our service users.

Furthermore, you will have a clear understanding of current market conditions and trends, as well as of modern and innovative procurement practices, including e-tendering processes.
