London Probation Trust’s role is to reduce reoffending and make London safer. Together with other criminal justice agencies, such as the Police, Prisons and Courts, we protect the victims and the public. Our skilled and experienced staff work directly with offenders to tackle the causes of their offending behaviour, enable them to turn their lives around and rehabilitate them back into the community.

It’s important and demanding work, particularly in London with its diverse population of 7.2 million people and high levels of poverty, unemployment and drug misuse. Our staff supervise over 45,000 offenders at any one time across London within our Local Delivery Units.

We are looking for committed, dynamic and motivated people to:-
• Work with offenders to change their lives and reduce re-offending
• Work with the police and local authorities to make communities safer
• Advise courts when sentencing offenders

You will start your career with London Probation Trust as a Probation Services Officer (PSO) and immediately begin the fast track qualification (Graduate Diploma in Community Justice) to become a Probation Officer within 18 months.

To be eligible you must have an Honours Degree gained within the last 5 years in one of the following:-

• Criminology
• Community Justice Studies
• Criminal Justice Studies
• Policing Studies

A joint Honours Degree with one of the above plus a Social Science or Law is acceptable

AND

Experience of working with challenging and difficult people. For example you may have done voluntary work with youth projects, prisons, police and drug/alcohol/mental health services.

Please note: The appointment is for a fixed term period of 18 months. There is no guarantee of appointment to a Probation Officer post immediately after successful completion of the Graduate Diploma but you will remain eligible to apply for a Probation Officer post when suitable opportunities arise.
