We have Full time and Part Time Positions Available across Surrey

Surrey County Council has recently completed a Public Value Review of services for people with a learning disability. The review has concluded that to deliver significant efficiencies while also improving the quality, range and affordability of services for these individuals and families, our focus must be on realising our aspirations of personalisation.

The Adult Social Care Directorate is therefore making a significant long-term investment in 12 new full time qualified practitioner posts. We are looking for experienced qualified practitioners to work with the Learning Disabilities Team to:

a) Undertake a targeted programme of reviews and re-assessments for people with a learning disability supported by Surrey County Council, over the next three years

b) Develop Surrey’s skills and ability as an adult social care service to develop person-centred support planning in innovative, creative, flexible and cost-effective ways working in partnership with individuals and their family / carers

c) Work alongside commissioners negotiating with strategic providers to develop current services and create a new market for services for people using individual budgets

d) Work closely with Quality Assurance, Safeguarding Advisors and Procurement

On a day-to-day basis you will be based within Surrey’s current adult social care locality teams to assist with the development of our own skills and knowledge and supporting our commitment to providing a local personal service to all Surrey residents, however you will liaise closely with the commissioning team and work to a clearly defined brief and work-plan to carry out reviews and reassessments of people placed within Surrey and out of county.

Promoting independence, choice and control is at the heart of these posts. Successful applicants must therefore be able to demonstrate an applied knowledge and understanding of personalisation principles. You will have particular knowledge and skills in working with people with a learning disability or want to develop your interest this particular area of practice. You should have a demonstrable commitment and passion to working with people in a person-centred way, proactively seeking to empower them and maximising their potential for independence.

As a level 2 practitioner you will need to have substantial post qualification experience. You will have an applied knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act and our statutory responsibilities, routinely work with more complex cases and be a competent safeguarding practitioner.

You will also have a commitment to reflective learning and your continuing professional development in order to meet the full accountabilities of this post. All post holders must be IT competent and all applicants will complete a standard IT Test as part of the recruitment process.

To arrange an informal discussion about these roles please contact either Alex Mackay on 01483 518 576 or Dena Kirkpatrick on 01483 518082

An enhanced CRB disclosure and a Children’s and Adults barred list check will be required for this role.

Surrey County Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

We want to be an inclusive and diverse employer of first choice,
reflecting the community we serve and particularly welcome applications from all under represented groups.
