The Surrey Registration District has a vacancy for a Receptionist / Clerical Assistant based at the district office in Guildford.

Guildford Register Office is undergoing major change at present, resulting in the office becoming the main records centre for the archived registers of the Surrey Registration Service within the next six months. You will become an important part of the clerical team, working to establish and improve existing working practices as the refurbishment progresses.

One of the principal functions of the receptionist / clerical role is the production of copy certificates for customers. This requires use of scanning equipment, specialist IT programmes (for which training will be given) and you must have clear, legible, neat handwriting. It is therefore essential for you to have good IT experience and ability, which will be tested at interview, together with a handwriting exercise.

As part of your duties, you will also be required to register marriages and civil partnership ceremonies and to assist in the day to day accounting procedures for the office. Knowledge of the Registration Service would be an advantage.

The Government is proposing radical changes to the Registration Service in the future and we are seeking to appoint someone with a positive approach who will be able to adapt to these changes. You will need to be able to operate in a team environment, as well as independently, have proven ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of people and you should have a good understanding of the provision of a front line customer service

This is a full time post and you will also be required to work 18 Saturdays per year as part of a rota. You will also have the opportunity to work additional hours on Sundays and Bank Holidays.

You must hold a full driving licence and be able to provide a car as you may be required to travel anywhere in Surrey as part of your duties.

Interviews will be held week commencing 18th August 2012.

If you have any queries about this role, please contact Chloe Green on 01483 518249.

Surrey County Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

We want to be an inclusive and diverse employer of first choice, reflecting the community we serve and particularly welcome applications from all under-represented groups.
