Research Skills Development Officer

Bournemouth University’s central Graduate School plays a leading role in delivering a distinctive BU Postgraduate Student Experience for both Post Graduate Research (PGR) and Post Graduate Teaching (PGT) students as well as overseeing the quality assurance of PGR provision. Part of this central role is the development, delivery and implementation of a Research Skills Training Programme, which will provide research skills development for postgraduate (PGR and PGT) students and the opportunity has arisen for a creative and proactive Research Skills Development Officer to take a leading role in developing this programme and to support its smooth running.
You will work across all Schools, reviewing the provision of research skills training centrally, academically and at an individual level and work with the Graduate School Academic Manager to develop a framework for supporting PGRs in developing their research skills. You will also be responsible for supporting the administration of the Research Skills Training Programme and contribute to other initiatives aimed at supporting postgraduate students.
You will have experience of working in a busy academic and/or office environment with a strong knowledge of the postgraduate student environment, the importance of research skills training for postgraduate students and an awareness of developing, maintaining and reviewing a skills training programme and the ability to provide advice and support to postgraduate students. Ideally you will have knowledge of the external research skills development agenda and have good interpersonal and organisational skills plus a desire to make a difference.
