Senior Democratic Support Officer (Temporary)

The Council is looking to recruit a committed and enthusiastic individual to join the team which supports Councillors and services the Council’s Cabinet, Committees and Partnerships.

You will be responsible for organising and attending meetings, including the preparation of agendas, minutes and reports. With a busy workload you must be an organised and capable self-starter, able to work on your own initiative and prioritise work in order to cope with tight deadlines.

The post holder may be required to attend occasional evening meetings at a number of locations across the district.

As a proven and able administrator, you will have special responsibility for providing support to the Council’s partnership working, such as the Local Strategic Partnership, as well as co-ordinating the Council community grants programme. Additionally you will be a source of advice and guidance for officers and as a supervisor assist with the management of the service.

You will have the ability to establish good working relationships with Members, Council Officers and in particular the Council’s partners such as the voluntary sector, police and County Council. The ability to provide a professional service to the public is essential.

You will be a proficient IT user with an excellent command of written English, as well as an experienced communicator ideally with a background of servicing local authority meetings, as well as having a sound knowledge of local government law and procedure.

Starting salary is dependent upon qualifications and experience. Applicants should have a degree or equivalent or three years committee administration experience and ideally have membership of Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators or equivalent postgraduate qualification.
