(Previous experience at Senior Practitioner Level would be advantageous but is not essential to apply)
As a Senior Practitioner in the Recruitment Team, you’ll safeguard and promote the welfare of Birmingham’s most vulnerable children and young people. We’ll look to you to deliver high quality services across your caseload, keeping wellbeing and safety at the heart of your approach. You’ll work in close partnership with the wider team, to ensure each child’s wishes are met at every step of the way.
When adults in our city are considering applying to be a foster carer or adopter for Birmingham, you’ll respond to their initial enquiry. Actively striving to ensure recruitment activity meets the needs of our children, you’ll make professional judgements about the merits of each enquiry. We’ll look to you arrange home visits to applicants, gathering information about them and share information with them about the fostering or adoption process. You’ll then complete and facilitate important checks, and work with senior practitioners and your Team Manager to drive through applications.
A qualified, HCPC registered social worker, you’ll bring to the role experience of working with vulnerable children and their families. Committed to working flexibly with others, you have collaborated effectively with other teams, statutory and voluntary agencies. You have a demonstrable understanding of key legislation, which equips you to analyse and intervene effectively in situations that are increasingly complex and challenging. Crucially, you have the ability to communicate clearly to all kinds of audiences, both in person and in writing and be competent in handling large numbers of calls each day.

A qualified, HCPC registered social worker, you’ll bring to the role extensive experience of working with vulnerable children and their families. This will include close and effective working with statutory and voluntary agencies. You have the knowledge, skills and experience it takes to analyse, review and make a positive difference in increasingly complex and challenging situations. We’ll also expect you to demonstrate successful experience of taking on supervisory responsibility.
If you have 3 years or more post qualifying experience & are joining us from another authority; you will receive a recruitment incentive payment of £3,000 (subject to tax and national insurance deductions).
If you stay with our Fostering Service for two years and remain with us; on your third year, you will receive a retention payment of £2,400, paid quarterly in your pay package.
