An exciting opportunity has arisen to work in the Borough of Broxbourne, an attractive borough bordering the M25, between the attractions of central London (a little over 20 minutes away by rail) and the green fields and woodlands of southern Hertfordshire.

Senior Urban Design and Conservation Officer – (Ref: 1G044)

Salary up to £34,747 pa. (depending on skills and experience).

Broxbourne contains a significant number of historic assets, and ambitious proposals for development including four strategic sites: Brookfield Riverside and Garden Village; Rosedale Park; Park Plaza, a major new business park; and Cheshunt Lakeside, a mixed-use urban village adjacent to a proposed Crossrail 2 station. The Council is looking for an experienced designer to help deliver these developments whilst leading work to protect and enhance the historic fabric of the area.

The Urban Design and Conservation Officer will lead the design input to the plan-making and development management functions of the service. The successful candidate will work on a variety of regeneration and conservation projects, as well as large and small Greenfield developments. The role also includes supporting case officers and working on a range of policy documents and guidance.

Applicants should hold a planning or related degree or be an urban design and/or conservation professional with significant urban design and conservation experience. Strong visualisation and mapping skills are a prerequisite, including familiarity with computer design packages. Master planning and experience of delivering development projects and advising on listed building matters would be a considerable advantage although not essential. Applicants should be excellent communicators.

We are committed to safer recruitment and safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and vulnerable adults and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

The benefits package includes generous leave entitlement, a full training and development programme, free membership to the Council’s local leisure centres and membership of the local government pension scheme.
