The London Borough of Richmond upon Thames and London Borough of Wandsworth present a unique opportunity to be part of a team who are working together to create a ground-breaking shared staffing structure across both boroughs.
• feel passionate about working with young people?
• have the skills to engage young people including those who may be challenging?
• have something special to offer that will assist young people to develop personally and socially, gain a new skill, step over the horizon?
We are increasing our team of sessional part time youth workers who are able to work at different locations across Wandsworth for a minimum of two evenings (six hours) per week.
We have five main youth centres in Wandsworth for young people aged 11-19 (and up to 25 if they have disabilities), open five evenings a week and offering a range of courses and activities as well as space for young people to just meet and chat with their friends. One of our centres is a specialist centre for young people with disabilities. We also do detached work on estates and parks as well as residentials and expeditions. Most of our centres offer advice and guidance and help with courses, training and CVs. We use recorded and accredited outcomes to help young people measure their progress and success.
For these posts you need to have experience of working with young people (including those who can be challenging), preferably in informal settings, an understanding of young people’s needs and interests and an ability to set and maintain professional boundaries.
We are particularly interested in recruiting staff who have specific skills in social media, IT or app development, outdoor education/Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, music studio work, drama …. or other more unusual things that may appeal to young people. We also want more staff who can lead structured group work.
Casual role for 6 to 12 or more hours per week.
