Shared Lives carers come from all walks of life and they need to have the right personal qualities; they need to be flexible, patient and committed to provide the person they care for with a stable and supportive home. They agree to share their home, family and community life with adults who need support or care. Shared Lives carers help people to develop or maintain independent living skills and friendships, giving people a true sense of belonging. Each placement is individual and carefully matched to ensure that both parties are compatible.
To become an Approved carer you will be assessed and have checks, references etc completed, all this can take 2 –3 months. Once approved you will be self-employed and work from home. You will be able to support up to 3 people (depending on space and capacity) and will be paid a fee for each of the placements you provide, and may vary depending on the needs of the individual. There is also ongoing support and training provided by the Shared Lives team.
