Reading has an established Multi-Dimensional Treatment Foster Care Programme. The Programme is innovated and evidenced based, it draws on a model developed in Oregon, USA and offers intensive and comprehensively supported foster placements for children in care (aged 10-16) with complex needs.
The role of the Skills Trainer is to support a young person’s progress in the programme and the foster placement through working with them in the community, in leisure activities or at school. Specifically, you will provide one to one support to young people to promote and practice pro-social behaviour and problem solving skills as advised by the Programme Supervisor. You will model and shape appropriate behaviour using prompting, practice and positive reinforcement. Some of this work will be undertaken during normal working hours but there is also the need for some work to be carried out after school and at weekends.
As part of Children’s Services, you’ll enjoy a supportive and stimulating work environment where we’re improving outcomes for children.
This post is ideal for an Assistant Psychologist, but applications from other professional backgrounds are encouraged.
For further information, please contact Kirsty Benson-Allison, Programme Manager, on 0118 901 5222.
A Criminal Records Disclosure will be sought from the successful candidate.
Closing date: 10 October 2008
