Mental Health Care for Older People
Community Mental Health Team
The integrated community mental health team for older people provides a seamless service across health and social care, with single line management. In Newham the emphasis is on providing a responsive and high quality service to enhance the quality of life and experience of service users.
The following exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated person to join the team:
Social Worker (AMHP/ASW)
£30,753 – £38,946 pa inc. of LW, flexible benefit and AMHP/ASW payment
We are looking for a social worker trained as an approved mental health professional (AMHP/ASW). You will be working within the Single Assessment Process, Care Programme Approach and Care First Framework. You will carry a designated caseload and be actively involved in service development and service improvement.
You will be a practicing approved mental health professional (approved social worker) with significant relevant experience preferably in mental health and a background in working with older people. You will be required to participate in the CMHT and Borough duty rota.
You will need to have knowledge of the NHS and Community Care Act as well as of the current developments in the mental health and social care of older people.
You will be given regular supervision and be provided with opportunities for continuous professional development.
Applications from social workers who are willing to train to become approved mental health professionals are welcomed but salaries will be reduced by £1,500 pa until the AMHP qualification is secured.

As the Council has a normal retirement age of 65, the maximum age for recruiting new employees will usually be 64 1/2.
