Special Needs Transport Drivers & Escorts

Harrow Council’s In-House Special Needs Transport Team is looking to recruit drivers and escorts to fill some vacant positions for this important service. It is home to school or other designated location and return in the afternoon; therefore a split shift is in operation.

Drivers will need to have a full clean D1 British driving licence, be at least 25 years of age, have 3 years’ driving experience as well as being physically fit as there will be a need to assist the escort with wheelchair passengers and passengers with mobility problems. Most of the vehicles you will be driving will be either fully automatic or semi automatic, although there may be a need to drive manual vehicles at times. Some of the vehicles have a tail lift for wheelchair passengers.

Escorts will need to be physically fit and able to manoeuvre wheelchairs and assist passengers from their home to the vehicle and schools and other locations, both in and out of the borough, as this role does involve manual handling.

It is essential that you are able to work as part of a team to ensure the safe transportation of clients with special needs, across a wide age group range from Pre School to college age. At times it may be necessary to work with Adults

with special needs.

Full training will be offered as part of this challenging and rewarding role and all

applicants will be subject to enhanced CRB checks prior to an offer of employment.

Drivers will also have to pass the Council’s own driver assessment.

Commitment to customer service is essential and candidates will need to have excellent communication skills.
