We require an enthusiastic, experienced and motivated individual to provide expert welfare benefit, financial advice and assistance to Reading Council tenants and privately rented tenants to maximise income, reduce expenditure and prioritise debts to prevent homelessness.
Reporting to the Senior Specialist Debt Advice Officer, your main duties will include preparing and conducting interviews with service users, and where necessary visiting service users within their own homes, to carry out a full means enquiry, including preparing a financial statement, giving debt advice, making contact with internal and external creditors to negotiate debt/arrears agreements. To offer advice on Welfare benefits and worklessness, and to promote financial and digital inclusion to service users.
This role would involve close working relationships with the Income Recovery Teams Debt Advice Team, Housing Needs Officers, Housing Benefit and Council Tax Officers, as well as other Council sections and outside agencies.
The ideal candidate will have proven experience in giving help and advice to the public in some form of advisory capacity in relation to complex regulations or legislation in Housing and or Debt Advice. Previous computer experience and well developed written communication skills is required.
