Reigate & Banstead Borough Council is looking for a confident, enthusiastic and self motivated individual with a can-do attitude to join our small Neighbourhood Services Team. The post holder should be passionate about the environment, waste management and the reduction of litter. You will be able to promote the waste awareness and litter prevention message to the community in order to make a difference.

As the Council’s Streetscene Awareness Officer (Recycling) you will assist in the implementation of the new kerbside recycling service and Clean Neighbourhood Campaigns that will be introduced next year. We need a fully experienced individual who can work with the pressures and impact these new services will bring to Neighbourhood Services. You will assist the Service Development Co-ordinator and Recycling Officer in achieving the objectives and targets set for the section.

You will help deliver the environmental and waste reduction policy of the Council through the management of the recycling schemes, creating and delivering communication and educational programmes in conjunction with key stakeholders, and organise initiatives to meet local and national targets.The post holder will be required to attend meetings (including out of hours) in the community and give presentations to community groups, schools etc; liaise with officers of the Council, Councillors, members of the public, other authorities and external partners where necessary and will also be involved in promoting the waste hierarchy and raising awareness at events, including some weekend events.

The Council operates an in-house service so the role will involve working closely with the operational team including the Recycling & Refuse Operations Manager, Supervisor and collection crews. As part of this you will be working with colleagues and residents to resolve operational issues including site visits. The role will require you to be able to travel around the Borough by use of your own vehicle.

Your role will also include assisting to draft reports, process payments, maintain and input accurate records, monitor recycling schemes, and understand waste management policy and legislation and how it affects the role of local authorities managing waste.

You should be computer literate with good communication skills, both written and oral, and have the ability to work on your own, as part of a team and with a wide range of people including children, crews and management. Background experience in waste management is essential.
